Our Story

A Kent saleroom, founded by dealers

Medway Auctions was founded in 2024 by three local dealers with years of experience on both sides of the auction business.

Who We Are

Approachable, expert, full of finds

We're not pretending to be Christie's. Our charm is the mix — house-clearance boxes alongside fine antiques — and our relationships with local dealers who keep a constant supply of interesting lots coming through the door.

We run regular live auctions of antiques and collectables, an online furniture & interiors shop, and the recurring Medway Vintage Fair. Whether you're buying your first lot or settling an estate, you'll find us warm, knowledgeable and unstuffy.

The Setting

The most complete dockyard of the Age of Sail

Our saleroom sits on the second floor of Building 3, Anchor Wharf — opposite the Ropery, at the far end of the Historic Dockyard, Chatham.

The 80-acre site has over 100 buildings and structures, of which 47 are scheduled ancient monuments — 11 listed Grade I and 33 Grade II. Rope has been made here since 1618, making Chatham the only one of the Royal Navy's original ropeyards still working. The Dockyard served the Navy for around four hundred years, until it closed on 31 March 1984.

1786

The Ropery

Rebuilt c.1786 — at construction the longest brick building in Europe, with a quarter-mile ropewalk.

1847

No. 3 Covered Slip

A dramatic timber slip of 1847 — a Scheduled Ancient Monument, listed Grade I.
